Abstract
Cervical Cancer is the fourth most common cancer in women globally, with an estimated 570,000 new cases and 311,000 deaths (WHO, 2019). Approximately 90% of 270,000 cervical cancer deaths in 2015 occurred in low-income and middle-income countries (LMIC) where mortality is 18 times higher than that in developed countries (Yu et al.,2022).
This was a retrospective review of all 27 cases of cervical cancer in the University Teaching Hospital (RSUTH), Port Harcourt, Nigeria. The use of de- identified patient files/ folders to acquire detailed data is still a potent tool for obtaining metrics for the actual burden of disease from the period of 2012-2022 (10 years period). Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS v26. We have used descriptive statistics and Pearson’s correlation. Patients information were entered into a proforma. The results obtained from the study showed that squamous cell carcinoma was the most common histological subtype in women with cervical cancer (40.7%). The age ranges with highest occurring cases of cervical cancer was 40-50 years. Frequently occurring stage at diagnosis was stage 2A (50.00%). In the year 2022, there was an increase in the number of cervical cancer patients diagnosed with Cervical Cancer. From the study we have been able, to report 27 cases of cervical cancer in Rivers State University Teaching Hospital Drugs such as 5FU, cisplatin and paclitaxel were used and showed the efficacy of such drugs as 2 patients went into remission.
